Course: Site Visits

Dr. Carmit Katz

This year long course is organized around site visits to a range of human service agencies offering counseling and support to persons exposed to traumatic stressors, such as terror victims, veterans, residents of communities under fire, battered women, children subjected to abuse or neglect, Holocaust survivors and their descendants, immigrants with absorption difficulties. Students will learn directly from the professionals providing the interventions about the principles that guide them and the intervention models they employ. In discussions following each visit, the class will conceptualize what they learned and relate it to theories and knowledge they acquired in other courses or elsewhere. In addition, so that they will be better able to use what they learned in subsequent work of their own, they will be encouraged to reflect on the personal feelings and impressions that their visits evoked.
